TYPES OF BOLTS

Bolts are available in a wide variety of head shapes. The most commonly used head shapes of bolts are square, socket cap, hex and slotted hex washer.

These heads are made to hold the material in place, provide grip and tighten them.

They are classified according to different strengths, shapes and materials.

  1. Anchor bolts

There are different components of anchor bolts.

It is a L shaped bolt with one part threaded in one end non threaded in other. It is mostly used with a washer and nut.

  1. Carriage bolts

They are round head and square neck bolts. In America, it is also known as cup head bolt.

  1. Elevator bolts

Elevator bolts are similar to carriage bolts. But its head is thin and flat and they have a square neck. Its square head prevents the bolt from turning when it is tightened.

  1. Eye Bolts

Eye bolts are essentially just a screw with an eye. It is rod shaped and has a thread on one end and a loop on the other end.

  1. Hex Bolts

It is also known as hex cap or machine bolts. They have hexagonal heads and Machine threads which are used with nuts.

USES OF BOLTS

  1. Anchor bolts are used to join non structural and structural elements to concrete. Its also used to secure light poles. 
  1. Carriage bolts are ideal for joining wood with metal. They are also used to fasten metal with metal.
  1. Elevator bolts are designed to attach elevator buckets to conveyor belts.
  1. Eye bolts are commonly used for lifting in Industrial applications such as wire and rope in light rigging.
  1. Hex bolts are used to secure and tighten metal, wood, plastic and other materials. They are mostly used in bridges, docks, highways and building structures.
